period 4
William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was a world known poet and playwrite. He died April 23, 1616 but was survived by his wife and two daughters, to whom he left everything too. Some of his most famous works were "Romeo and Juliet","Hamlet", and "A Mid-Summer Nights Dream". He mainly wrote love stories, of betral and heart break.
He was married only once to Anne Hathaway, and after 6months of marriage she gave birth to his first daughter, Susanna, with the twins, Hamnet and Judith following a few years later, but Hamnet died for unknown reasons at age 11.
At first Shakespeare was not praised or given any recognition for his work, until the Romantic era in which even the Kings and Queens would come to watch his plays.
During the time Cathisism was illegal, but that is exactly what Shakespeare and his family was. Although it would be against his religion, William was contantly writing sonnets about the "Dark Lady" and many people started to think of the dark lady as a man. The sonnets were adressed to a married woman but many saw it as a secretive reply of heterosexualism.
